Common, Preventable, Workplace Injuries for Radiologists
Posted by Mike Graham on Mar 18, 2015 6:00:00 AM
As a radiologist, it's no doubt that you spend a rather significant amount of time at a desk, behind a computer. The physical toll it takes on your body has to have crossed your mind. Not only do you risk becoming ill from germs on your keyboard and work surfaces, but you can also injure yourself. One of the most common preventable injuries amongst someone who spends a significant amount of time at a desk is related to the placement of the keyboard. Keyboard orientation is important to reduce muscular skeletal injuries. Whether sitting or standing, maintaining neutral alignment of the wrist along with an approximate 90 degree forearm-to-upper-arm relationship will significantly reduce the opportunity of injury.

The Secrets of Ergonomics and George Clooney...?
Posted by A Previous Xybix Employee on Oct 23, 2014 1:35:00 PM
One of the most common questions we get from prospective customers is, “What sets you apart from your competitors?” Aside from our dashing good looks and exceptional personalities, Xybix is the number one dispatch furniture manufacturer in ergonomics. Now, I know this is usually the part where your vision blurs and the voice in your head starts sounding like the teacher from Charlie Brown, but as our lovely Joanna Pease details in her blog, “What Is Ergonomics, and Why Is It Important to You?”, Ergonomics are important—not just to your health, but also to your work-life longevity and productivity.
While Joanna’s blog is a great example of how ergonomics applies to you, I wanted to delve even further into the “meat” of the topic and explore where this study comes from and who decides what works—and maybe use some Hollywood references to keep you interested!
Wait, was that George Clooney?!

What Is Ergonomics? And Why It Is Important to YOU as a 911 Dispatcher
Posted by A Previous Xybix Employee on Oct 9, 2014 12:59:00 PM
Ergonomics. It’s one of those words we hear thrown around a lot, and we know it’s important, but what does it actually mean? And why should we care?
I must admit, 5 years ago, when I first started working for Xybix, I couldn’t have given you the definition, or even explained why having something be “ergonomically correct” was important. I knew it was, “something about being healthy, or something to do with your posture.” At the time, I was a slouchy 20-something. I was young, and therefore felt that ergonomics did not apply to me. Maybe it was something my grandparents needed? I was constantly being told to stand up straight anyway, and I figured I didn’t need something else reminding me. Sound familiar?

Help! Our Height-Adjustable Workstations Never Get Used
Posted by Ken Carson on Sep 24, 2014 4:42:00 PM
“We spent good money on these height-adjustable consoles 7 years ago, and none of my dispatchers use them!” I can spot this problem immediately when I walk into a 911 dispatch center. Both the workstation surfaces are the exact same height, with paperwork and radios spread out across them. Most dispatchers in the center are not working in the best ergonomic position. What can I say? Some people simply do not like change.

Four Things You Should Consider when Choosing Technical Furniture
Posted by Kathleen Utley on Sep 4, 2014 12:05:49 PM
Today, too many of us are strapped to our desks and glued to our computer monitors and keyboards, especially, for the long hours required by most of our jobs in the fields of public safety, security facilities and operations control rooms which can operate 24/7.
We might ask ourselves, “Isn’t there another option?” With the recent advancements in technical furniture and ergonomic workstations, the answer is "yes!" Why should managers, directors and supervisors care? Because improper ergonomic positioning can result in work-related injuries and decrease performance and productivity.

X-amine Your Ergonomics: How Height-Adjustable Workstations Can Benefit Radiologists
Posted by A Previous Xybix Employee on Apr 15, 2014 2:46:00 PM
I recently ran into a registered nurse who now works a desk job and sells services nationwide. When I was explaining to him that I worked for a company called Xybix Systems, Inc. that makes height adjustable ergonomic furniture, his eyes lit up and he said, “No way! I just built a homemade, height-adjustable desk myself and even added a treadmill! Here, I have a picture…” Needless to say what I saw, while impressive in a DIY kind of way, it was wrong on multiple levels. As an RN working the ER floor, he gained 60 pounds and struggled with eating right in a nonstop, emotionally taxing environment. He managed to lose the weight and keep it off and has certainly benefited from integrating consistent activity into his new workspace.

Casino Surveillance Isn't a Gamble: Your Casino Security Consoles Shouldn't be Either
Posted by Ken Carson on Mar 31, 2014 4:24:17 PM
One of the most important investments a casino owner can make is in the security of the establishment. With this in mind, many casino managers have installed high-tech surveillance systems, such as HD cameras and around-the-clock video monitoring, all of which provides exceptional oversight and security. But the casino industry’s next big surveillance investment should be a little closer to solid ground. We’re talking about height-adjustable furniture consoles for security operators, which can be incredibly beneficial for both the operations team and the management.
Height-adjustable furniture is commonly used in government agencies such as 911 dispatch and utilities departments. While you may think that 911 dispatchers have little in common with casino security, they actually share one major job function: long hours at a desk, scrutinizing multiple computer screens.
