At Berrien County 911, dispatchers strive every day to make their community a better and safer place to live. The county in the southwestern corner of Michigan’s lower peninsula is home to nearly 153,000 people, who are served by 50 different police, fire, and EMS agencies.

The 911 center is staffed by 34 call takers and dispatchers with 5 to 10 on shift at a time. The employees exhibit incredible pride in the rewarding job, especially the sense of purpose it brings and the opportunity to help the community.

When the Berrien County 911 center needed a refresh, they turned to Xybix again and we were honored to help this dedicated group. Xybix worked closely with their team on new consoles, new carpeting, and a successful live cutover.

Caitlin, Director of the Berrien County 911 center, explains why the center is a repeat Xybix customer: “We have had great luck with our console furniture over the years; they’ve really lasted [for] us and we stayed with them when we did our refresh.” She describes great experiences with Xybix team members who eased the remodel process by helping with flooring, helped them save money by reusing some of the old framework, and kept the center quiet and clean during a live cutover.

Tony, a Dispatch Supervisor who has been with Berrien County 911 for 20 years, proclaims the consoles “awesome.” He appreciates the personalized heating, cooling, and LED lights along with the Rollervision for adjusting monitors to the proper focal depth. “The customization is top-notch…everybody has their own personal likes and dislikes and each person can customize it the way they want it,” he says.

According to Amy, a call taker at Berrien County 911 for 2 years, “I love that the desks allow me to stand at work because sitting makes me feel jittery.” While Amy prefers to stand, she likes that she can “change the settings to fit how I'm comfortable” when sitting.
