Ever heard the term "wasted space"? Typically you'd hear this term in reference to the usable vs unusable space around a dispatch console. Often this is term is intermingled with a console footprint. Which is how much space a console or workstation does or does not take up in a room. Why is this important?

Some console manufacturers claim to have eliminated wasted space with a linear design, when they have just moved it in different locations on the console.  No matter what you will still have some wasted space in the design of the console and then in the design of the room.

Well, if you are trying to fit a particular number of consoles in a room or have a specific design you're trying to achieve, you might want to consider both corner consoles and a straight consoles as well.  Let the designer do their work in getting everything to fit in your space with the first layout design.  After the first design comes in you can get involved and talk directly with the designer on what you need.

Wasted space is one small concern of fitting furniture in the room.  What about the terms, "usable storage space", "unusable storage space" and "circulation".  All of these affect the room more than wasted space and understanding these terms can help you understand the actual footprint of a console and lend a hand in design considerations for your next remodel or update.
