With health becoming a very big topic in 911 dispatch, I thought I'd share what I found when researching the topic. I had no idea how big the mason jar meal craze was until I started to research. First, I came accross a 2 part series on Mason Jar Meals, the prep work and how to do it. Then, I found a good blog on how to pack your own salad in a jar without the veggies getting soggy (this is good advice - cause no one wants a soggy salad), what the best jar to use is, and how long you can store the jar(s) in the fridge.
At this point, I drank the Kool-Aid and I started to think that packing a healthy breakfast, lunch or dinner doesn’t have to be so hard. Having something healthy and handy to take to work? YES please! Eating correct portions and actual food (not frozen grocery store meals) is exactly what I need to stay healthy.
Here are a few recipe ideas I found:
There is also a variety of breakfast options for those really long shifts. If you are like me and by now you are probably as jazzed about this topic as I am, you might even be going to go to the store on the way home for your supplies. The next question - How do you transport your jars? Try a double bottle wine tote (various uses of course).
The grab and go health meal craze seems to be catching on, believe it or not, they are even coming out with a vending machine option for healthy food on the go. Now, why didn't I think of that?
