About a week ago, I was driving home when traffic suddenly slowed to a crawl. Moments later, police units sped past with sirens blasting and lights flashing. Scrolling through my local Facebook group later, I learned that a suspect had been located and apprehended thanks to a real-time crime center(RTCC) that spotted the vehicle on camera and relayed its location to officers on the street.
It was a powerful reminder that RTCCs help law enforcement act faster, smarter, and safer. And while the technology inside is critical, so is the environment where these operators work.
That’s where Xybix comes in.
When we partnered with Martin County to furnish their RTCC, the mission was clear: build a command space that could handle the demands of real time surveillance, instant decision making, and constant communication.
During the design process, we walked the space with their leadership and operators. We heard firsthand about the hours, the need for rapid access to multiple camera feeds, how they work together, and the challenge of staying alert and comfortable.
The solution? Custom sit-stand workstations built around their technology, their workflows, and their people. From precise monitor placement for quick scanning to an oversized conference table for collaboration, the details were intentional. The result was a room where operators could focus on the mission comfortably.
Why Ergonomics Matter in RTCCs
Comfort directly impacts performance and when crime is happening in real time, comfort shouldn’t be a concern. One of the operators told us, “When you’re watching dozens of feeds, fatigue is your worst enemy.”

Stories like the one I experienced on the road are why we’re so excited to bring our solutions to the National Real Time Crime Center Association Conference in Atlanta September 22nd – 25th.
We’ll be meeting public safety leaders, learning more about the challenges RTCCs face, and showing how the right workstation design can make operators more effective, more comfortable, and more focused.
